Senior Accountant, Inventory
The Senior Accountant, Inventory, reporting to the Assistant Controller, will support the company’s financial close process, maintain accurate and complete financial records, manage inventory accounting, and ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP. This role plays a critical part in month-end close, owns inventory and cost accounting, and supports with debt, fixed assets, and other accruals. The Senior Accountant, Inventory will partner extensively with Operations, Supply Chain, IT, and FP&A teams to ensure timely, accurate financial reporting in a high-volume CPG environment. This role is a full-time (40 hr/wk) salaried, exempt, remote position. The compensation range for the Senior Accountant, Inventory is $105,000 to $115,000 USD/year.
Responsibilities
Own key components of the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes to ensure timely and accurate reporting.
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual journal entries with a focus on inventory-related items; prepare balance sheet reconciliations, investigate any variances, and resolve discrepancies.
Analyze inventory transactions across multiple sales channels and partner with Operations, Supply Chain, and IT to ensure inventory accuracy, proper cutoff, and strong internal controls.
Calculate and analyze cost of goods sold (COGS), inventory reserves, and inventory obsolescence.
Provide ad hoc financial analysis and support to cross-functional teams company-wide.
Support various internal and external audits and tax compliance activities.
Assist with the documentation and maintenance of accounting policies and procedures.
Identify, implement, and document opportunities to improve processes and controls across assigned areas, with a focus on inventory.
Ensure ongoing compliance with U.S. GAAP, internal accounting policies, and government regulations.
Other responsibilities as assigned.
Some travel (<5%) may be required on an as-needed basis, with advance notice provided to the employee.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA preferred.
Minimum of 3-5+ years of progressive accounting experience is required; Big 4 public accounting experience preferred.
Experience managing and reconciling inventory across multiple locations.
Proficient in variance analyses; able to determine root causes and recommend solutions.
Strong technical accounting knowledge, including the ability to research, interpret, and apply GAAP and FASB ASC standards to business transactions and financial reporting.
Exceptional communication and collaboration skills, preferably with experience managing relationships and dynamics in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
ERP experience required; NetSuite-specific experience preferred.
Prior exposure to Floqast or WMS connection tools preferred.
Accounting experience in a CPG or FMCG environment is ideal.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
This role involves sitting most of the time but may also involve moving for brief periods of time.
